OpenClaw

Give your OpenClaw agent live web data. It asks for records in plain words, SpecStream runs the request inside the price ceiling you set, and every row comes back with the page it was read from.

SpecStream for OpenClawAI assistants

What you need

  • OpenClaw 2026.10.3 or newer.
  • A SpecStream account and an API key. You create the key in step 2.
  1. 1. Install the plugin

Install SpecStream from ClawHub (opens in a new tab). To install from npm instead, use openclaw plugins install @specstream/openclaw-plugin.

    Terminal
    openclaw plugins install clawhub:@specstream/openclaw-plugin
  2. 2. Create an API key

In your SpecStream workspace, open Agents & API, choose API keys, and click Create API key. The plugin starts runs, so give the key the permission to authorize paid work. Set the projects it may use, an expiry, and a total spending limit. Copy the key when it is shown. It is not shown again.

  3. 3. Give OpenClaw the key

The plugin reads the key from the SPECSTREAM_API_KEY environment variable. To keep it in your OpenClaw config instead, store a SecretRef that points at the variable.

    Terminal
    openclaw config set plugins.entries.specstream.config.apiKey \
    '{"source":"env","provider":"default","id":"SPECSTREAM_API_KEY"}' --strict-json
  4. 4. Set the price ceiling

The ceiling is the most one list may cost, in US dollars, and it defaults to 5. A run starts only when its quoted maximum is at or below the ceiling. This is the setting that lets you hand an agent a tool that spends money.

    Terminal
    openclaw config set plugins.entries.specstream.config.maxPriceUsd 5
  5. 5. Ask your agent

Ask the way you would ask a colleague:

Find dental clinics in Lisbon with online booking, with their website and phone. Keep it under $4.

The agent calls specstream_find_list. You get a table of rows, each with the page it came from, and a link that opens the list in your workspace.

The plugin's tools

specstream_find_list reads the request, gets the price, and starts the run only when the most it can cost is within your ceiling. It waits for the run and returns the rows. specstream_get_list_rows reads every row of a list you already own, and reading is free.

Input of specstream_find_listWhat it does
requestThe data you want in plain words: what to find, where, what every row must meet, and the facts to bring back.
max_resultsHow many rows, from 1 to 1000. Defaults to 25.
max_price_usdOptional. A lower ceiling for this call. A value above your configured ceiling is ignored.

What comes back

The tool returns JSON with state, list_id, list_link, and rows. Each row has its columns plus source_url, the page it was read from, and checked_at, when it was read. list_link opens the list in your workspace.

Some states mean nothing ran. over_maximum means the price was above your ceiling, so ask for fewer rows or raise the ceiling yourself. needs_edit means the request was too vague to price, so add the place or what every row must meet. When a big list is still running as the wait ends, call specstream_get_list_rows with its list_id.

Your ceiling stays yours

The agent can ask for a lower ceiling on a call and can never raise yours. Repeating the same request with the same limits within the hour reaches the run already started, so a flaky turn does not buy the data twice.

Settings

Set these under plugins.entries.specstream.config.

OptionDefaultWhat it does
apiKeySPECSTREAM_API_KEYYour SpecStream API key, or a SecretRef.
maxPriceUsd5The price ceiling for one list, in US dollars.
waitSeconds300How long a find waits for a running list before it returns the rows so far. From 10 to 900.

Add the SpecStream server for the full conversation

The plugin also ships skills that read the request back, get the price, approve it, and read, send, and continue the work: specstream-compile, specstream-review-work, specstream-approve-work, and specstream-continue-work. They use the hosted SpecStream server and stay hidden until you add it.

Run openclaw mcp set specstream '{"url":"https://api.specstream.ai/mcp","transport":"streamable-http","auth":"oauth"}', then openclaw mcp login specstream. The tools above work without it.

Cost

The plugin is free. A match costs 10¢, 30¢, or $1, depending on how much each one brings back. A person's email adds 10¢ and a phone number adds 25¢. When nothing matches, nothing is charged. New accounts start with $10 of work for 30 days, no card. See pricing and balance, quotes, and billing.

Remove

Remove the plugin in OpenClaw, and revoke the key under API keys in Agents & API. The next request made with the key fails. The lists you made stay put in your workspace. For anything else, email [email protected].

More

SpecStream for OpenClaw covers what it does in OpenClaw on one page. Every other tool has its guide in Connect your tools. You see the most a request can cost before it starts, and only the matches come out of your balance. Billing has the details. For help, email [email protected].
