Words we use

The workspace, the docs, and the API use the same words for the same things. When one sounds like jargon, this is where it earns its keep.

Asking

Request
What you want found, in your own words. Earlier versions stay saved when you edit it.
Saved version
A saved copy of a request. Editing creates a new version; earlier ones stay exactly as they were.
Reading
How SpecStream read your request, as parts you can edit: what to find, where, conditions, exclusions, order, quantity, and the details to return. Ambiguous or unsupported details stay visible.
Record type
The kind of thing you are looking for, such as local businesses, grants, or clinical trials. See them all.
Required detail
A detail a result needs usable evidence for before it counts as a match.
Optional detail
A detail you’d like back. If nobody published it, it stays empty and the result can still be a match.

Paying

Quote
The price for the saved version of your request and the work you asked for: the rate, the quantity, the useful minimum, and the maximum. Valid for 30 minutes.
Rate
What one match costs: Standard $0.10, Expanded $0.30, or Deep $1. The quote says which one applies.
Approved maximum
The most a piece of work can cost. It’s set aside before the work starts, and the charge can never exceed it.
Useful minimum
The fewest matching results worth paying for: 1 unless you set another number. A run that finds fewer charges nothing, and the price of anything it couldn’t find goes back to your balance.
Balance
The money your work draws from. People, agents, API clients, and schedules share it.
Top-up
Balance you buy, from $10 in whole-dollar amounts. It doesn’t expire.

Finding and checking

Match
A result that meets every required condition, with usable evidence for its required details. Only matches are charged.
Excluded
The evidence shows the result fails a requirement.
Unresolved
SpecStream couldn’t establish the fact: a source didn’t respond or the evidence wasn’t good enough. It isn’t a no.
Evidence
The source and observation time behind a fact, and which requirement it supports.
Decision
The recorded checks behind a result: observed values, sources, dates, and the outcome.
Decision replay
Runs the same rules again on the saved pages. No new search, no model calls, no charge.
Evidence-bound AI
AI that answers each condition of a request with a short reason and the source it read, while code checks the numbers, dates and quotes. Every answer is recorded, so any decision can be replayed.
Cross-check
Checking a fact against more than one source. When sources disagree, the conflict stays visible instead of one of them winning quietly.
Historical copy
An archived copy of a page, labeled with the date it was captured. It can support a fact about the past; it never passes for what’s true today.

Keeping the work going

Find more
Look for more matches. Ones you already own aren’t bought again.
Add details
Gather new details about retained results. Only the new details are priced.
Refresh
Recheck retained results. It reports what was verified, no longer matches, stayed unresolved, was unavailable, or wasn’t reached.
Monitor
A saved operation on a schedule, with a cadence, a timezone, a limit per run, and a monthly limit. Watch for new ones sets one up from a found list.
Occurrence
One scheduled run. If the balance or permission isn’t there, the occurrence is blocked: nothing runs and nothing is charged.

Organizing and sharing

Collection
Records from a find or an import, with table, list, map, compare, and history views.
Combine
Make one collection from several. A place or company that appears in more than one is kept once, and the originals stay as they are.
Your fields
Columns you add to a collection and fill in yourself: a Status with options you name, a Checkbox, or Text. SpecStream never changes them.
Embed
The map from a share link, shown on your own site for as long as the link lasts.
Plan a route
A visiting order through up to 11 selected places, opened as Google Maps directions or copied as a list.
Import
A CSV or Excel file you bring, or a linked Google Sheet or Airtable view, up to 20,000 rows and 20 MB. Your values stay labeled as yours; importing doesn’t start paid work.
Saved view
Filters, visible columns, sorting, map area, and view type, saved to come back to.
Snapshot
A fixed selection of results that never changes. Share it with an expiry date, optional download, and your choice of contact visibility.
Relationship
A connection between records through a value in one of your columns. Missing values stay unconnected.
Project
Where related collections, notes, members, and spending limits live. Members are owners, editors, or viewers.
Note
A comment on a project or a record, up to 8,000 characters. Mention someone by email and they get it by email.
Destination
Where selected results land in a connected tool: a sheet, table, database, board, or CRM, with fields mapped first. It can keep receiving new matches as they’re found.
Template
A request that already works, ready to edit. Change the place or the numbers, then find.

Agents and developers

API key
Credentials for the API and MCP, with read, prepare, or execute scope, optional project limits, an expiry date, and a spending ceiling.
Delegated access
Permission for an agent to start specific work within a per-run limit, a monthly limit, and an expiry date.
OAuth client
An application you register and approve, with its permissions reviewed separately. You can revoke it.
Webhook
A signed message to your endpoint when a find completes, a monitor finds something new, or records are added to a collection. The signing secret is shown once, at creation.
Single sign-on
Signing in through your company’s identity provider over SAML, on a domain you verified. With SCIM, people join and leave with their provider account.
Audit log
Who signed in, created keys, approved spending, exported, or set up monitors, and when. Kept for 12 months.
MCP
The Model Context Protocol endpoint agents use to work in SpecStream. Connect an agent.
