Use SpecStream in ChatGPT
Add SpecStream to ChatGPT as a custom MCP server. Ask for a list in your own words, approve the price, and get back only the matches, each with its source.
What you need
- A SpecStream account. Start free: $10 of work for 30 days, no card.
The server address is the same for every client:
Connect
- Go to ChatGPT Plugins, select the plus button, then Add custom MCP server.
- Enter a name and description. Under Connection, paste the server address.
- Set Authentication to OAuth. ChatGPT finds SpecStream's sign-in on its own, so there is nothing to register.
- Review the risk warning, select I understand and want to continue, then Create as a plugin.
- Install it, start a new conversation, type
@and choose SpecStream. Sign in to SpecStream when ChatGPT asks.
Or use an API key
ChatGPT connects to servers that need an account through OAuth, and it can't send an API key. So for now it needs an application registered in SpecStream. Workspace permissions apply: on Business and Enterprise plans an admin may need to allow custom plugins first.
- In the workspace, open Agents & API, choose OAuth applications, then Register application. Name it ChatGPT, set the redirect address to
https://chatgpt.com/connector_platform_oauth_redirect, and choose the access level. Copy the client ID. If ChatGPT later reports a different redirect address, register a second application with that one. - Go to ChatGPT Plugins, select the plus button, then Add custom MCP server.
- Enter a name and description. Under Connection, paste the server address.
- Set Authentication to OAuth and enter the client ID as static credentials. Leave the secret blank: SpecStream's applications are public clients and sign in with PKCE.
- Review the risk warning, select I understand and want to continue, then Create as a plugin.
- Install it, start a new conversation, type
@and choose SpecStream. Sign in to SpecStream when ChatGPT asks, and review what it requests. ChatGPT asks you to sign in again when the connection expires.
Try it
Once ChatGPT shows SpecStream's tools, ask in your own words:
Use SpecStream to find open tenders on SAM.gov for translation services with a deadline after November 1. Include the buyer and the estimated value. Show me the price first.
SpecStream reads the request back and gives you the price. Nothing is spent until you approve a maximum, and you pay only for the matches, each with its source.
Set access and spending limits
An agent works on your account, with the same balance, permissions and spending limits you have. Give its key the least it needs: read, prepare or execute permissions, project limits, an expiry and a spending ceiling. Paid work needs an approved price with a ceiling, and reading, exporting and sharing cost nothing.
