Add SpecStream to Cline and let the coding agent pull live web data into your work. You see the price first, and each record that comes back names the page its values were read from.
SpecStream for ClineCoding agentsUntil SpecStream is in Cline's marketplace, run cline mcp install specstream --transport http https://api.specstream.ai/mcp and sign in to SpecStream in the browser window that opens.
What you need
- A SpecStream account. The first $10 of work is free for 30 days.
- Cline, as the extension or the command-line tool.
- 1
1. Install SpecStream
Open the MCP Servers panel in Cline, find SpecStream in the marketplace, and install it. The server is
https://api.specstream.ai/mcp, over Streamable HTTP.The command line installs the same server:
Cline command line - 2
2. Sign in to SpecStream
A browser window opens for SpecStream's sign-in. Sign in and approve the access Cline asks for. SpecStream uses OAuth for this, so there is no key to paste.
- 3
3. Ask Cline
Describe the data you need and the details to bring back. For example:
In a Cline task - 4
4. Or add the server by hand
Use this when you'd rather edit the settings file, or when the machine has no browser. In the extension, choose MCP Servers, then Remote Servers. Name the server
specstream, enter the address, and pick Streamable HTTP. Or add the entry shown below tocline_mcp_settings.json.On a machine with no browser, create an API key. Open Agents & API in the workspace, go to API keys, and select Create API key. Then add
"headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_SPECSTREAM_API_KEY" }to the entry and keepautoApproveempty.cline_mcp_settings.json
Approvals in Cline
Leave autoApprove empty in SpecStream's entry. With the list empty, Cline asks before it runs a SpecStream tool. A run spends from your balance, so you should see it before it starts. SpecStream adds its own gate: nothing paid begins until you approve the price it quotes.
What Cline calls
A request moves through these tools in order.
compilereads the request and says what SpecStream will look for.quote_capacity_workprices the request. It spends nothing.authorize_capacity_workstarts the work after you approve the maximum.get_findfollows progress, andlist_find_rowsreads the rows as they arrive, each with its source.
After the run
export_find makes a download link as CSV, Excel, JSON, or HTML. send_to_destination sends selected rows to a tool you've connected under Connections. Stopping a run keeps what it found so far. For results that should stay current, ask Cline to create a monitor with create_capacity_schedule, and read more about schedules.
If Cline can't add a remote server
Use the stdio bridge instead. Install it with Python 3.12 or newer: pip install specstream-mcp-stdio. Set SPECSTREAM_API_KEY in the environment Cline starts from. Then add an entry whose command is specstream-mcp-stdio and whose env sets SPECSTREAM_MCP_URL to https://api.specstream.ai/mcp. If the executable isn't on your PATH, put its full path in command.
Limits and cost
Asking, reading the request back, and pricing cost nothing. You pay for the matches delivered, never more than the maximum you approved. Read or prepare access can price a request but can't start it. Execute access can, up to the key's spending limit. See how quotes and billing work.
Disconnect
Revoke Cline's access in SpecStream's Settings. A key you created for it can be revoked in Agents & API. Results you saved stay where they are. Questions: [email protected].
More
SpecStream for Cline covers what it does in Cline on one page. Every other tool has its guide in Connect your tools. You see the most a request can cost before it starts, and only the matches come out of your balance. Billing has the details. For help, email [email protected].
