Affinity

Put live web data in your Affinity lists: the companies that just raised, the ones hiring their first salespeople, the ones a thesis is about. Each company arrives as an organization in the list you pick, with its fields filled and a note on why it matches, every reason linked to the page it came from.

What you need

  • A SpecStream account. Starting is free: new accounts get $10 of work, no card.
  • An Affinity plan that includes the API, and an API key of your own.
  • Results from a finished request. An imported file needs its matches found first.
  1. 1. Connect Affinity

In Affinity, open Settings, then Manage Apps, and generate an API key.

In SpecStream, open Connections and choose Affinity. Paste the key and click Connect Affinity.

    Connect Affinity, the Account step
Affinity checks the key before SpecStream keeps it.

An Affinity key acts as you, so SpecStream sees the lists you can see. It only reads your lists and their fields, looks up organizations by domain, creates and updates organizations, adds them to the list you pick, writes the fields you map and keeps one note on each. It doesn't read people, opportunities, emails, meetings or anyone else's notes. The key is stored encrypted and never shown again.

  2. 2. Choose where records go

Decide what happens when Affinity already has a company: fill it in and update it, or leave it as it is. Pick an organization list, like your sourcing list, and every company in the batch joins it once; leave it empty to add organizations only. Then pick the collection the records come from and select the ones to send.

    Connect Affinity, the Destination step
  3. 3. Match the fields

Choose the Affinity field for each detail, by the names your team gave them: headcount to a number field, what a company does to a text field, the funding round to a column your list keeps for it. Fields every list shares go on the organization; a list's own columns go on the company's row in that list. Fields you don't map aren't sent.

    Connect Affinity, the Columns step

Every company needs a website or a domain. That's how Affinity and SpecStream know it's the same company.

  4. 4. Review and send

Review shows exactly how the first company arrives in Affinity. Send the records, and turn on Keep sending to send the collection's new and changed records to the same list with the same mapping, including what a monitor finds on its schedule.

    Connect Affinity, the Review step

Once Affinity is connected, send from any collection too: select results, open Export and choose Affinity under Send to.

Matching

Before it creates anything, SpecStream searches Affinity for the company's domain, Affinity's own company records included. A company with the same name on another domain is a different company and gets its own organization. A match is updated or left alone, as you chose, and joins the list once, never twice. Why it matches lives in one note headed Why it matches, from SpecStream, and a resend rewrites that note instead of adding another. If a write times out, SpecStream checks what arrived instead of writing it again.

Organizations only

SpecStream never adds people, emails anyone, or creates or moves an opportunity.

Cost

Sending results to Affinity costs nothing. Requests are paid from your SpecStream balance, only for the results that match, and each one shows the most it can cost before it starts. See balance, quotes and billing.

Disconnect

Disconnect from Connections in SpecStream, which deletes the stored key. To retire the key in Affinity as well, revoke it under Manage Apps. Organizations, list rows and notes already in Affinity stay there. The other tools SpecStream connects to are in Connect your tools; for help, email [email protected].
