Make

Ask for live web data from a Make scenario and pass each record to the next module, with the page it was read from and when. Watch rows starts a scenario as soon as a run finishes or a monitored run finds something new.

SpecStream for MakeAutomation

What you need

  • A Make account.
  • A SpecStream account. Opening one is free.
  • An API key from SpecStream, made in step 2.
  1. 1. Install the SpecStream app

Open the SpecStream app invitation (opens in a new tab) while signed in to Make and install the app. SpecStream then appears in the module list of any scenario.

  2. 2. Create an API key

Keys live in the workspace under Agents & API. Choose API keys there, click Create API key, and name the key Make.

The modules draw on different permissions. Find a list needs Read saved requests, Create and edit requests, Prepare work and follow-ups, and Authorize paid work. List results and Watch rows need Read results and their sources. The connection signs in through Read account and balance, so every key gets that one.

Watch rows puts a webhook on your account, so set Project to All your projects. If the key can authorize paid work, give it a Total spending limit. Before the key can start a run, set your account's own spending limit in Settings, under Usage and billing.

Copy the key as soon as it appears. SpecStream shows it once.

  3. 3. Add the connection

Open any SpecStream module, create a connection, and paste the key into API key. Make labels the connection with your SpecStream email.

  4. 4. Start a run with Find a list

Add Find a list and fill in What to find, Number of results, and Maximum price (USD). For a first run, schedule the module with "Roofing companies in Columbus, Ohio with their website and phone", 25 results, and a $5 maximum.

The module reads the request, prices it, and starts the run only if the most it can cost is at or below your maximum. Above that, the module stops with the price. A request too vague to price stops the module and shows how SpecStream read it, which tells you what to add.

Locale sets the language and region the web is searched in, written like en-US or de-DE. Requests can be in any language either way. Run key names one run: a second request with the same key gets the run already started and costs nothing more.

The module returns List ID, Status, Request as read, Number of results, Maximum price (USD), and List link. The run continues in SpecStream, so read its records with List results or let Watch rows deliver them.

  5. 5. Read records with List results

List results is a search module that returns one bundle per record. Pick a list from the List ID dropdown, which shows each of your lists with its record count, or map the List ID from Find a list. Limit is 10 until you raise it.

Reading is free. Mid-run it returns the records found so far, and List status tells you whether the list is still running.

  6. 6. Start a scenario with Watch rows

Watch rows is an instant trigger. In Rows from, choose A list you asked for finishes to receive every record of any list on your account that finishes, or A list you keep current finds new or changed rows.

The second choice needs a monitor on the list: use Keep it current on the list in SpecStream, pick a cadence, and save with Start monitor. Each bundle carries a Change value of new or changed.

Add the module that should receive the records and map its fields from the bundle. Google Sheets, Add a row, is a common choice.

What arrives

List results and Watch rows hand over the same bundle, with one extra field on the trigger.

FieldWhat it holds
Row IDThe record's ID.
PositionIts place in the list.
List ID, List linkThe list it came from, with a link that opens it in your workspace.
ColumnsEvery column of the record, under the name the list gives it.
Source URLsThe page each column was read from, by column name.
Checked at by columnWhen each column was read, by column name.
Checked atWhen the newest column of the record was read.
CellsEach column in full: its value, how it is shown, why it is empty when it is, and its source name, source URL, and read time.
ChangeWatch rows only. New, or changed when a monitor found it.

Anything else in the API

Make an API call sends any request to the SpecStream API over the connection you already made. Enter a path such as /v1/me, choose the method, and add headers, a query string, or a body. The authorization header is added for you.

Limits and cost

The app is free. Find a list draws on your SpecStream balance for the results that match, never above the maximum in the module. Balance, quotes, and billing has the rates.

Remove

To end access, delete the connection in Make and revoke the key on the API keys tab. Each webhook that Watch rows created appears on the Webhooks tab of the same page, and revoking one stops its deliveries. Whatever Make already wrote to other apps stays there. Other tools are listed on Connect your tools.

More

SpecStream for Make covers what it does in Make on one page. Every other tool has its guide in Connect your tools. You see the most a request can cost before it starts, and only the matches come out of your balance. Billing has the details. For help, email [email protected].
