Workato
Run live web data through Workato recipes. The SpecStream connector asks for records on request and starts a job for every record that arrives. Each value is tied to the page it was read from and when.
SpecStream for WorkatoAutomationWhat you need
- A Workato workspace where you can add a connector from the community library.
- A SpecStream account. Step 2 makes the API key.
- 1
1. Add the connector
In Workato's community library, search for SpecStream and install the connector. Its actions and trigger then appear when you build a recipe.
- 2
2. Create an API key
On SpecStream's Agents & API page, the API keys tab holds your keys, and Create API key adds one.
For Find a list, switch on Read saved requests, Create and edit requests, Read results and their sources, Prepare work and follow-ups, and Authorize paid work. Get list results needs Read results and their sources. New row needs that plus Read saved requests. Workato's connection test reads your account, so add Read account and balance.
Pick All your projects under Project, because a key tied to one project can't start the New row trigger. Give a key that can authorize paid work a Total spending limit. A key also waits for an account spending limit before it starts anything, so open Settings, then Usage and billing, and set one.
SpecStream shows the key only at creation, so copy it then.

3. Connect Workato to SpecStream
In a recipe step, create a SpecStream connection and paste the key into API key. Workato tests it when you connect.
- 4
4. Use Find a list in a recipe
Use Find a list as a recipe action. What to find takes the request in plain words, Number of results starts at 25, and Maximum price (USD) must be more than 0.
SpecStream reads and prices the request, and the run starts only if the most it can cost is at or below your maximum. If the price is higher, the step stops and names both amounts.
Its output is List ID, Status, Request as read, Number of results, Maximum price (USD), and List link. Asking for the same request again within the same hour returns the run already started, so a retried job doesn't buy it twice.
- 5
5. Start a job for every record with New row
Use New row as the recipe trigger. Rows from offers A list you asked for finishes and A list you keep current finds new or changed rows.
Workato starts one job per record and skips a record it has already received, using its Row ID. The second option needs a monitor on the list: Keep it current, then Start monitor.
- 6
6. Read a list on demand
Get list results takes a List ID from Find a list or from New row. It returns List status (running, completed, or partial), Number of rows, List link, and Rows, an array with one entry per record. Nothing is charged, and one call returns up to 100 records.
What arrives
The New row trigger and each entry in Rows carry the same fields.
| Field | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Row ID | The list ID and record ID together. |
| List ID, List link | Which list the record belongs to, with a link to open it. |
| position | Its order in the list. |
| Source URL | The source page of the record's first value. |
| Checked at | When the source page was read. |
| change | New or changed, for records delivered by a monitor. |
| Column fields | One for each column, named by the column's label. |
Other endpoints
The connector's custom action calls any SpecStream endpoint with the same connection. Paths start at /v1, and the API reference lists them.
Limits and cost
SpecStream charges nothing for the connector. Find a list is paid from your SpecStream balance, only for the matches, and never above the maximum in the step. The mechanics are in balance, quotes, and billing.
Disconnect
Remove the connection in Workato, then revoke the key in Agents & API if you want access gone immediately. Workato removes a trigger's webhook from SpecStream when the recipe stops. Records already sent stay in their destinations. Anything this page doesn't cover can go to [email protected].
More
SpecStream for Workato covers what it does in Workato on one page. Every other tool has its guide in Connect your tools. You see the most a request can cost before it starts, and only the matches come out of your balance. Billing has the details. For help, email [email protected].
