SpecStream for IFTTTAutomation
SpecStream for IFTTT is coming soon

SpecStream's IFTTT service is in review and isn't listed yet. Until it is, a monitor can post new records in Slack, send them to a connected tool, or call a webhook: open a list, click Keep it current, and choose under When a run finds something new.

What you need

  • An IFTTT account.
  • A SpecStream account. IFTTT signs in to it, so you don't create an API key.
  1. 1. Connect SpecStream on IFTTT

Open the SpecStream service on IFTTT and click Connect. IFTTT sends you to SpecStream to sign in.

  2. 2. Approve what IFTTT can do

After you sign in, SpecStream shows Connect IFTTT. It lists what IFTTT can do: read your saved requests, create and edit requests, read results and their sources, and read your account and balance.

It lists what IFTTT can't do as well, and starting paid work is on that side. Click Authorize IFTTT to finish.

  3. 3. Choose a trigger

Create an Applet and pick a SpecStream trigger: one fires for a new record, the other for a changed record. Choose which list it watches: Any list, or one of your saved requests.

The new-record trigger fires when a run of a list adds a record the run before it didn't have. The changed-record trigger fires once for every value that changed in a record, with the value before and after.

New runs happen when you ask for more results or when a monitor repeats the list. Keep it current on a list in SpecStream sets a monitor up.

  4. 4. Use the record in an action

Pass the trigger's values to any action in the Applet: the record's name and values, the source page, the list's name and link, and the time it was added or changed. IFTTT calls these ingredients. The changed-record trigger adds the name of the field and its value before and after.

  5. 5. Save a request from an Applet

Add the SpecStream action that asks for data. In the request field, write what you want in plain words, for example "dentists in Austin with their phone numbers".

SpecStream reads the request, saves it in your workspace, and prices it. The action never runs the request and never spends. It returns the saved request's ID and a link. Open the link and approve the price in the workspace to start the work.

What an Applet receives

Triggers return the newest events first.

TriggerValues
New recordrecord_name, record_values (one line per value, as the list shows them), source_url, list_name, list_url, and added_at.
Changed recordrecord_name, field_name, value_before, value_after, source_url, list_name, list_url, and changed_at.

Timing

When a run adds or changes records, SpecStream tells IFTTT right away. An Applet doesn't wait for IFTTT's next scheduled look.

Limits and cost

The SpecStream service is free in IFTTT. The action only saves and prices a request. Paid work starts in the workspace after you approve a price, comes out of your balance, and charges only for the matches. How quotes and charges work is on the balance, quotes, and billing page.

Disconnect

Disconnect SpecStream from its service page on IFTTT, or revoke IFTTT's access from Settings in SpecStream. Saved requests and lists stay in your workspace. Connect your tools covers where else SpecStream sends data.

More

SpecStream for IFTTT covers what it does in IFTTT on one page. Every other tool has its guide in Connect your tools. You see the most a request can cost before it starts, and only the matches come out of your balance. Billing has the details. For help, email [email protected].
