Add SpecStream from the DigitalOcean Marketplace and give your apps and agents live web data, each value with the page it came from. DigitalOcean delivers an API key as config vars and bills the plan on your DigitalOcean invoice.

SpecStream for DigitalOceanAPI & cloud platforms
SpecStream for DigitalOcean is coming soon

SpecStream is not in the DigitalOcean Marketplace yet. Until it is, create a free account at specstream.ai, make a key under Agents & API with permission to create requests, authorize paid work, and read results. Use it with the requests on this page against https://api.specstream.ai. An MCP client can connect to https://api.specstream.ai/mcp with the same key. A paid plan is billed by card on specstream.ai until the add-on is live.

What you need

  • A DigitalOcean account.
  • Somewhere to make requests: a Droplet, an App Platform app, a function, or a terminal.
  1. 1. Add SpecStream

Open SpecStream in the DigitalOcean Marketplace and click Add SpecStream. Choose a plan and name the resource when DigitalOcean asks.

SpecStream opens one account for the resource at once. The account uses an address DigitalOcean provides, and DigitalOcean forwards its mail to you. A DigitalOcean account can hold one SpecStream add-on. To change plans, change the plan of the add-on you have.

  2. 2. Copy the config vars

Open the resource in the DigitalOcean control panel. It lists SPECSTREAM_API_KEY, SPECSTREAM_API_URL (https://api.specstream.ai), and SPECSTREAM_MCP_URL (https://api.specstream.ai/mcp). Set them in the environment of the Droplet, App Platform app, or function that will call SpecStream.

Keep the key out of source control.

    In a Droplet shell
    export SPECSTREAM_API_KEY="your-key-from-the-control-panel"
    export SPECSTREAM_API_URL="https://api.specstream.ai"
    export SPECSTREAM_MCP_URL="https://api.specstream.ai/mcp"
  3. 3. Ask for data

Send a request in plain words to /v1/capacity/requests. maximum_price_usd is the most you'll pay: SpecStream reads the request, prices it, and starts it only when the price is within that maximum.

The first answer is 202 with state set to reading. Send the same request again after retry_after_seconds seconds. A state of started returns a find_id. needs_edit means the request needs the place or what each result must meet, and above_maximum means the price was over your maximum. Nothing runs in either case.

Add your own idempotency_key, 8 to 128 characters long, so a repeated call returns the run you already started instead of starting another.

Ask for 25 results for $3 at most
    curl "$SPECSTREAM_API_URL/v1/capacity/requests" \
    -H "Authorization: Bearer $SPECSTREAM_API_KEY" \
    -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"q": "Breweries in Portland, Oregon that host events, with their website", "requested_units": 25, "maximum_price_usd": 3}'
  4. 4. Read the results

When state is started, read the results with the find_id. Each value comes with the page it was read from and when it was read. GET /v1/finds/FIND_ID reports progress while the find runs.

    Read the results
    curl "$SPECSTREAM_API_URL/v1/finds/FIND_ID/rows" \
    -H "Authorization: Bearer $SPECSTREAM_API_KEY"

Open the dashboard

Click View dashboard on the resource in the control panel. Anyone on your DigitalOcean team lands in the account's SpecStream workspace already signed in, where they can read results, create more keys, and set spending limits.

Plans and billing

Choose and change the plan in the DigitalOcean control panel. It is billed on your DigitalOcean invoice, and the workspace shows Billed through DigitalOcean. with a Manage in DigitalOcean link to your Add-Ons page.

Each plan includes the REST API, MCP, schedules, exports, and syncs. Work is spent at 10¢, 30¢, or $1 a match, shown before anything runs. Unused monthly work carries over for one month.

A plan change takes effect at once. The unused part of the current month's work is taken back, and the new plan starts a fresh month. Moving to Free ends the paid month immediately.

Keys

The key from DigitalOcean can authorize paid work, up to your balance. For an app that should spend less, open View dashboard, go to Agents & API, create another key with a Total spending limit, and give the app that one.

A key lasts a year. About two months before it ends, SpecStream issues a new one and updates the config vars. Your app picks up the new value when you copy it from the control panel, and the old key keeps working until its own end date.

Connect an agent

Point an MCP client at SPECSTREAM_MCP_URL and send the key in an Authorization: Bearer header. The MCP guide has the connection details, and the client setup guides cover Claude, ChatGPT, and more.

Remove

Destroy the resource in the DigitalOcean control panel. That ends the plan, stops the key, and deletes the SpecStream account. Export what you want to keep from Settings first.

SpecStream erases the account's data after a 7-day grace period. Adding SpecStream again during those days is refused until the date SpecStream names.

If DigitalOcean suspends the resource over a late invoice, the key stops working until the invoice is paid and the resource is reactivated.
