Parallel alternatives: finished rows with no fee per run
SpecStream is the best alternative to Parallel for teams that build datasets from the web. Parallel sells separate APIs for search, extraction, research tasks, FindAll lists and monitors, each priced on its own, and every FindAll run carries a fixed fee on top of what each match costs. Joining those outputs into one record per company and writing it into your CRM is work you build around the calls. SpecStream is the live web data engine for teams and agents: one request in plain words returns structured rows that meet every condition you wrote, priced before the run and billed only for the rows delivered.
New accounts get $10 of work for their first 30 days, no card.
SpecStream and Parallel side by side
| SpecStream | Parallel | |
|---|---|---|
| What you send | The data you want in plain words, with the conditions every row must meet | A FindAll query in plain words, turned into match conditions. Search, Extract, Task and Monitor each take a request of their own |
| What you get back | Structured rows, one record per company, place or filing, with facts from many sites joined. Source URL and read time on every value | FindAll returns candidates marked matched or unmatched, and its basis can carry citations and reasoning. Task returns the fields you asked for, with citations and confidence |
| Data already held | Public databases read every morning at specstream.ai/data: every company that filed a Form D since 2023 with its filing history, nearly 2 million US nonprofits, every US bank failure since 1934, federal rules, open federal contracts and grants, and local businesses. Signals such as funding rounds, new executives and layoffs at specstream.ai/signals. Ask for your own cut of any of them | Entity Search returns people and companies, 100 results a request, at $5 per 1,000 requests. Data Connectors add partner sources to Task and Responses runs |
| A list you already have | Import a CSV, Excel file, Google Sheet or Airtable base of up to 20,000 rows. SpecStream fills in or checks each row and matches it to one identity, with any namesakes shown alongside their evidence. Import is free. A row that matches pays its rate, and a row that does not costs 5¢ | One Task run per row, at $5 to $2,400 per 1,000 runs by processor, from the API, Google Sheets, BigQuery or Snowflake. FindAll enrichments add a Task price for each match |
| The unit you pay for | A delivered row: 5¢, 15¢ or $1 by how much the row needs, plus 5¢ for an email and 15¢ for a phone. The same rate on every plan | A run plus each match. FindAll costs $0.25 a run plus $0.03 a match on base, up to $10.00 plus $1.00 on pro. Search costs $1 to $5 per 1,000 requests |
| What failed or empty work costs | Nothing. A row left out, a retry and a run that finds nothing are not charged | Failed Task runs are not billed. A FindAll run pays its fixed fee by the price formula, and a cancelled run is charged for the work done |
| The cost cap before a run | The most the run can cost, quoted before it starts. Nothing runs until you approve it, and there are no automatic overages | A match limit you set. The price follows a formula: the fixed fee, plus each match, plus each enrichment |
| Reruns and change labels | Hourly to yearly. Each row comes back labeled changed, unchanged or no longer matching. A changed or new row costs half its rate, an unchanged row 1¢ | Monitor reruns a query or one Task run hourly, daily or weekly and sends changes by webhook, at $3 or $10 per 1,000 checks. A FindAll schedule: not stated |
| MCP and API | MCP server, REST API, Python and TypeScript SDKs, a CLI and A2A. An agent can buy one request with no account, by card or in USDC | Hosted MCP server, with search and fetch tools open without a key. REST API, Python and TypeScript SDKs and a CLI |
| Where the data goes | Google Sheets, Excel, Airtable, Notion, monday.com, HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive, Attio, Slack, Teams, Zapier, Make, n8n and signed webhooks | API responses and webhooks. Google Sheets, n8n, Zapier, BigQuery and Snowflake integrations |
Why Parallel buyers move to SpecStream
One request covers the whole dataset
On Parallel, FindAll finds the matches, Task enrichments add the fields, and Monitor watches for change, each called and billed on its own. On SpecStream you write the job once: "US credit unions with more than $1 billion in assets that opened a branch this year, with the CEO and the branch address", or "EU suppliers of recycled PET flakes with food contact approval stated on their site". SpecStream reads the request back as parts you can edit, the conditions every row must meet and the facts to bring back, then searches the live web, reads each page and joins what it finds into one record per match.
No fee per run, and a run that finds nothing costs nothing
Every FindAll run has a fixed fee, from $0.10 on preview to $10.00 on pro, before the price of each match. SpecStream has no fee per run. You pay for the rows that meet your request: 5¢ for a row with up to 5 facts, 15¢ for up to 15 facts and one set of related records, and $1 for a deep row with no limit. A company left out, a retry and a run that finds nothing cost nothing.
Only matching rows reach you
A FindAll result can hold both matched and unmatched candidates, and your code filters on the match status. On SpecStream a result that fails one of your conditions is not delivered and not billed. For any row, get_find_decisions returns each condition's answer with its reason, the value, the source and the time it was read.
The price covers the whole job
A FindAll price depends on the generator, the matches found and each enrichment added. SpecStream quotes the most the whole dataset can cost, good for 30 minutes, and nothing runs until you approve it. The charge never goes past that amount, and whatever the run does not use goes back to your balance.
Every row rechecked, in the tools your team uses
Parallel Monitor reruns a query or one Task run and sends changes by webhook. A saved SpecStream request reruns the whole dataset hourly to yearly, and each row comes back labeled changed, unchanged or no longer matching. A changed or new row costs half its rate and an unchanged row costs 1¢. New matches and changes land in HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive, Attio, Sheets, Slack or Teams with no code, or in your agent through the MCP server.
Other Parallel alternatives
Exa
A search API. Search costs $4 (lite) or $7 (auto) per 1,000 requests and returns links with text, highlights or summaries. Exa Agent costs $0.012 to $1.00 a request at a fixed effort level. Each request is billed on its own, while SpecStream bills only the rows delivered, under a maximum you approve first.
Tavily
A search API for agents. Credits cost $0.008 each pay as you go. A basic search is 1 credit, and a Research run takes 4 to 110 credits on mini or 15 to 250 on pro. SpecStream names the most a run can cost before it starts, and the charge never goes past it.
Firecrawl
Search, Scrape, Crawl and Agent endpoints billed in credits: 1 a page, 4 more for JSON and 2 per 10 search results, on paid plans from $19 a month for 5,000 credits to $749 a month for 1,000,000. A 403 or 404 page costs 1 credit. On SpecStream the pages read to find a row are not billed.
How to switch from Parallel
Write the dataset you want in plain words, in place of the FindAll queries and Task schemas you send today. Sign up and you get $10 of work for your first 30 days, no card. At 5¢ a row, that is up to 200 rows.
Or send the request from code. This call spends nothing: the 402 reply shows how SpecStream read the request, the columns and the most it can cost.
curl -i https://api.specstream.ai/v1/agent/lists \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"request": "EU suppliers of recycled PET flakes with food contact approval stated on their site", "count": 25}'Approve that maximum by card through Stripe's Link agent wallet, or in USDC on Base, Arbitrum or Polygon, and you pay only for the rows found. On an account, your agent uses the MCP server at https://api.specstream.ai/mcp and your team uses the workspace, from the same balance.
