# Trae

Ask Trae's agent for records from the live web in plain words, see the price first, and get structured rows back with a source on every value.

[SpecStream for TraeCoding agents](https://specstream.ai/integrations/trae.md)

## What you need

- Trae, the IDE or the Agent window.
- A SpecStream account. New accounts get $10 of work on sign-up, no card. [Create one](https://specstream.ai/signup?utm_source=trae).

    ## 1. Create a SpecStream API key

    Trae's remote servers take their sign-in as an HTTP header, so use an API key. In SpecStream, open [Agents & API](https://specstream.ai/workspace/agents?tab=keys&utm_source=trae), choose **API keys**, then **Create API key**, and set a total spending limit. Copy the key.

2.  2

    ## 2. Open the MCP settings

    In Trae, go to **Settings**, then **MCP**. In the Agent window, first choose the **Local** or **Cloud** runtime for the server.

3.  3

    ## 3. Add SpecStream

    In the upper-right corner, click **Add**, then **Create Manually**. Paste this entry with your key, and click **Confirm**. SpecStream is a remote server that uses Streamable HTTP, which Trae supports:

    Trae MCP server

    ```json
    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "specstream": {
          "url": "https://api.specstream.ai/mcp",
          "headers": {
            "Authorization": "Bearer <your SpecStream API key>"
          }
        }
      }
    }
    ```

    ## 4. Ask for data

    SpecStream now shows in the MCP server list. Describe the records you want and the details to bring back on each one:

    In Trae's agent

    ```text
    Find craft breweries in Denver, with each one's website, address, and current tap list. Use SpecStream, then add them to the app as a data file.
    ```

## What happens when you ask

SpecStream reads the request back, then quotes the most it can cost. Nothing runs until you approve that price. Rows arrive with the source URL and read time on every value. Trae then writes them into the code it is working on.

## Keep it in a project

To use SpecStream in one project, turn on **Enable Project MCP** under **Settings**, then **MCP**, and put the entry in `.trae/mcp.json` at the project root. Keep the key in the global config rather than the project file, because a project file travels with the repository.

## Cost

Connecting SpecStream to Trae is free. Reading a request and pricing it cost nothing. Each matching row costs 5¢, 15¢ or $1, depending on how much the row needs, plus 5¢ for a person's email and 15¢ for a phone. A quote lasts 30 minutes, a run can't cost more than the maximum you approved, and a run that finds nothing costs nothing. [Balance, quotes, and billing](https://specstream.ai/docs/billing.md) has the details.

## Disconnect

Remove SpecStream from the MCP server list under **Settings**, then **MCP**. To end its access on the SpecStream side, open **Agents & API** in your workspace, choose **API keys**, and revoke the key. Your saved results stay in your workspace.
