# Jan

Ask a Jan chat for records from the live web in plain words, see the price first, and get structured rows back with a source on every value.

[SpecStream for JanAI assistants](https://specstream.ai/integrations/jan.md)

## What you need

- Jan, and a model with tools enabled.
- A SpecStream account. New accounts get $10 of work on sign-up, no card. [Create one](https://specstream.ai/signup?utm_source=jan).

1.  1

    ## 1. Open the MCP settings

    In Jan, go to **Settings**, then **MCP Servers**, and select **\+ Add MCP Server**.

2.  2

    ## 2. Add SpecStream

    Set **Transport** to **HTTP (Streamable HTTP)** and enter `https://api.specstream.ai/mcp` in **Command / URL**. SpecStream is a remote server that uses Streamable HTTP. Turn the server on. A green indicator shows when it is active.

3.  3

    ## 3. Sign in to SpecStream

    For an HTTP server, Jan shows an **Auth** line. Select **Sign in**. Jan opens your browser, where you sign in or create an account and approve the access. The sign-in page waits five minutes. Requests run on the account that signed in, with its balance and spending limits.

4.  4

    ## 4. Ask for data

    Start a chat with a model that has tools enabled, then describe the records you want and the details to bring back on each one. Jan asks you to approve each tool call in the chat:

    In a Jan chat

    ```text
    Find independent pharmacies in Lyon, with each one's website, address, and opening hours. Use SpecStream.
    ```

## What happens when you ask

SpecStream reads the request back, then quotes the most it can cost. Nothing runs until you approve that price. Rows arrive with the source URL and read time on every value.

## Or connect with an API key

In SpecStream, open [Agents & API](https://specstream.ai/workspace/agents?tab=keys&utm_source=jan), choose **API keys**, then **Create API key**, and set a total spending limit. Jan's docs say that when you set an `Authorization` header on a server, Jan uses it as it is and skips OAuth. Use the value `Bearer <your SpecStream API key>`. Jan's docs do not show where the form takes that header, so OAuth is the route to start with.

## Cost

Connecting SpecStream to Jan is free. Reading a request and pricing it cost nothing. Each matching row costs 5¢, 15¢ or $1, depending on how much the row needs, plus 5¢ for a person's email and 15¢ for a phone. A quote lasts 30 minutes, a run can't cost more than the maximum you approved, and a run that finds nothing costs nothing. [Balance, quotes, and billing](https://specstream.ai/docs/billing.md) has the details.

## Disconnect

In **Settings**, then **MCP Servers**, select **Clear authentication** on the SpecStream server to delete the stored tokens, or remove the server. To end its access on the SpecStream side, open **Agents & API** in your workspace, choose **OAuth applications**, and revoke Jan, or revoke the key under **API keys**. Your saved results stay in your workspace. Questions go to [support@specstream.ai](mailto:support@specstream.ai).

## More

[SpecStream for Jan](https://specstream.ai/integrations/jan.md) covers what it does in Jan on one page. Every other tool has its guide in [Connect your tools](https://specstream.ai/docs/integrations.md). You see the most a request can cost before it starts, and the matches are paid from your balance. [Billing](https://specstream.ai/docs/billing.md) has the details. For help, email [support@specstream.ai](mailto:support@specstream.ai).
