# Factory Droid

Ask Droid for records from the live web in plain words, see the price first, and get structured rows back in the terminal with a source on every value.

[SpecStream for Factory DroidCoding agents](https://specstream.ai/integrations/factory-droid.md)

## What you need

- Factory's Droid CLI, signed in.
- A SpecStream account. New accounts get $10 of work on sign-up, no card. [Create one](https://specstream.ai/signup?utm_source=factory-droid).

1.  1

    ## 1. Add SpecStream

    Run this in a terminal. SpecStream is a remote server, so the type is `http`:

    Terminal

    ```bash
    droid mcp add specstream https://api.specstream.ai/mcp --type http
    ```

2.  2

    ## 2. Sign in to SpecStream

    Start Droid and type `/mcp`. Select **specstream** and finish the sign-in in your browser: sign in or create an account, and approve the access Droid asks for. Until then `droid mcp list` shows the server as needing authentication. Requests run on the account that signed in, with its balance and spending limits.

3.  3

    ## 3. Ask for data

    Describe the records you want and the details to bring back on each one:

    In Droid

    ```text
    Find ten open-source libraries for parsing PDF files in Rust, with each one's license, latest release date, and repository. Use SpecStream.
    ```

4.  4

    ## 4. Or connect with an API key

    Use a key on a machine with no browser. In SpecStream, open [Agents & API](https://specstream.ai/workspace/agents?tab=keys&utm_source=factory-droid), choose **API keys**, then **Create API key**, and set a total spending limit. Then add the server with the key as a header in place of the first step. `--no-oauth` stops Droid from starting a sign-in:

    Terminal with a key

    ```bash
    droid mcp add specstream https://api.specstream.ai/mcp --type http \
      --header "Authorization: Bearer <your SpecStream API key>" --no-oauth
    ```

## What happens when you ask

SpecStream reads the request back, then quotes the most it can cost. Nothing runs until you approve that price. Rows arrive with the source URL and read time on every value.

## Install the plugin instead

SpecStream also publishes its Claude Code plugin, which adds the server and four skills. Droid reads that layout. Run `droid plugin marketplace add specstream/specstream-tools`, then `droid plugin marketplace list` to see the marketplace name, and install with `droid plugin install specstream@<marketplace name> --scope user`. Use the plugin or the server steps above, not both.

## Keep it in a file

`droid mcp add` saves the server to `~/.factory/mcp.json`. A project can carry its own `.factory/mcp.json` in the project root, and Droid reloads when the file changes. The entry is named `specstream`, with `type` set to `http` and `url` set to `https://api.specstream.ai/mcp`. Keep API keys out of the project file. Without a key in the entry, each teammate signs in with their own SpecStream account.

## If your organization limits MCP servers

When an MCP policy is on in your Factory organization, the server's hostname must be on its allowlist. Ask an admin to add `api.specstream.ai`.

## Cost

Connecting SpecStream to Droid is free. Reading a request and pricing it cost nothing. Each matching row costs 5¢, 15¢ or $1, depending on how much the row needs, plus 5¢ for a person's email and 15¢ for a phone. A quote lasts 30 minutes, a run can't cost more than the maximum you approved, and a run that finds nothing costs nothing. [Balance, quotes, and billing](https://specstream.ai/docs/billing.md) has the details.

## Disconnect

Remove the `specstream` entry from `mcp.json`. To end Droid's access on the SpecStream side, open **Agents & API** in your workspace, choose **OAuth applications**, and revoke Droid, or revoke the key under **API keys**. Your saved results stay in your workspace. Questions go to [support@specstream.ai](mailto:support@specstream.ai).
